Cased London Colt Navy revolver made in 1853
A very rare and complete set. One of the first-year-of-production Navy revolvers made at the Colt London factory in 1853. The first 2000 or so were imported and finished in London before the London factory started its own production in 1853; this example is numbered 3127. Contained in its correct 1853-produced case. The layout of the case is in the same style as the cased London Dragoon revolvers. The bullet mould faces in the opposite direction to the later standard cased sets, and the nipple key is in a compartment with raised sides. Lined in blue velvet and retaining its original Colt instruction label on the inside of the lid. The revolver is in very clean, crisp condition. Shows very little sign of any use with a crisp, clean rifled bore and clean nipples. Good intact safety pins. The barrel retains a large amount of its Colt factory charcoal blue finish. No pitting. Some of the case hardening remains on the frame. Action is in perfect working order. Cased with a steel-headed cleaning rod, nipple key, oil bottle, bone container with six spare nipples inside, a Barton powder flask, and the correct London factory-made bullet mould. It is very rare to find an early Colt London Navy with its correct contemporary case and accessories.
