Royal Navy Flintlock 1759 dated Sea Service Pistol
The very rare, 1718 Pattern Sea Service Pistol. Made by Jordon and dated 1759 to the crown over G.R. lock. A twelve-inch barrel with G.R. proofs to the top of the breech. The lock is in good working order with no replaced parts. The metalwork has a nice smooth grey patina overall, not sanded or over-cleaned. Complete stock. It is known that some were issued without a belt hook; this pistol does not appear to have even had one. A rare survivor of the Napoleonic Wars. Whereas many are happy ot own an example of the 1801 Pattern Sea Service pistol as a representative of an arm used at the Battle of the Nile, or Trafalgar, the truth is, the vast majority of those were made post-1805. The Royal Navy was given far less priority with supplied new firearms than the land forces. As such, arms were issued for a long period of time until worn out. That this pistol is still in good working order today, it most certainly would have been during the time of the the great Napoleonic naval battles!
